Hello Healthies =D
How is everyone? Sorry I haven’t posted in about a week, life’s been crazy, as you all probably know…and if you don’t have a busy life then I am VERY JEALOUS! If you are as busy as me it is important that you get some relaxation time. Relaxation time is part of being healthy! You must find your own individual outlet of relaxation whether its going to the gym and working of some steam, doing yoga, reading a book, laying down and listening to music and just closing your eyes, watching a funny movie, or whatever else you can come up with! The thing is, if your stressed you tend to make more unhealthy choices which lead to unhealthy habits. For example, if your stressed and don’t have any time in your day to think, chances are your going to run to McDonalds and grab a cheeseburger before you even think once, nevermind twice about your unhealthy choice! I should probably also note that I have had the strangest craving for a McDonalds cheeseburger the last few days. I can’t even remember the last time I had one! Remember what I always tell you, everything in moderation!!! I probably have this craving because I am PMSing…see thats the good part about being a girl, we have an excuse for our “once in a blue moon cravings”…sorry boys ;D
Anyway, the other night I had THE BEST Tomato & Mozzarella Salad I have ever had!…EVER….It was from one of my favor pizza parlors, “Broadway Joes” on Broadway and 242nd…in the Bronx! =D
Here’s a picture!!!

Stay healthy, stay beautiful, stay energetic, stay reading!!! =D

Health, Love, and Survival…Carissa

…this morning I was reminded of why I eat healthy! Yesterday was Bobby’s birthday so we went to a very nice, very yummy, and very expensive restaurant called Churrascaria Plataforma! It was an all you can eat steakhouse! The funny part is I didn’t eat that much, but my body isn’t used to all of the sodium! It was delicious, and it was the first time I’ve eaten unhealthy in weeks! As grandma said, everything in moderation! So I went for it! Prime rib, filet, chicken, bbq ribs…SO GOOD! It’s worth going at least once! I ate until I was full, very very full! I woke up this morning feeling dehydrated, bloated, swollen, numb, and sick! After drinking lots and lots of water I began feeling a bit better but still energy-less. Its 12:49 pm now and I finally am beginning to feel slightly hungry. I’m thinking I will eat some egg whites around 230 after my classes are over. The scariest part for me after eating all of the amazing but extremely unhealthy food was that there are millions of people who eat that way every single day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner!!! WHY?! Why would someone want to do that to there body? It’s funny how drugs are illegal because they are harmful to your health, alcohol is a problematic cause of much sickness and health, cigarettes are widely spoken about as a cause of death…but the topic of unhealthy eating, obesity, heart attacks and heart disease are often slipped under the rug! It blows my mind! Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in America?! I learned that in my death class that I’m actually sitting in right now! Food can be and often is, an addiction! An extremely unhealthy addiction. When you feed your body with all of this fat, sodium, sugar, etc you are simply dying a slow death! I haven’t spoken much about exercise mainly because this blog is more food focused but exercise plays a huge role too! Unfortunately, I am guilty of not exercising as much as I should but I do make healthy choices like walking to places in the city whenever I can instead of taking the subway, taking the stairs and not the elevator, and when I get a burst of energy I make a trip to the gym! This is so important! So in conclusion to today’s post, my food hangover reminded me of why I make the healthy choices that I do!

Home for the weekend!

September 25, 2010

Good Morning world! I am home for the weekend and excited to have some home cooked meals! There is nothing better than real home cooked food with real ingredients! I am still starting off my morning with some Chobani though! ;D I made my dad buy it for me last night! Yummy yummy! The flavor of the day is Peach! =D I am feeling extra healthy today! I feel very good about my body and the choices I’ve been making. This “new diet” or should I say, this new way of life…is really paying off! Don’t forget…everything in moderation! Daddy and Bobby’s birthday’s are coming up and a little tiny piece of cake never hurt anyone! As grandma says…everything in moderation!!

Thoughts become things!

September 23, 2010

I woke up this morning and weighed 126.5 and I’m feeling super healthy! My hard work is paying off! My body is relieving itself from all of the toxins I’ve consumed in the last few months! How are all of you doing?! There hasn’t been much for me to write because I’ve been eating the same things over and over! I will be writing more this weekend because I will be going home and the food around me will change! So stay tuned for more posts!!

Sorry for going AWOL the last two days. Things have been hectic! But don’t worry…not too hectic to stop eating healthy! I am still obsessed with Chobani! =D
I’ve tried my hardest to stay away from dining hall food the last few days and was doing a pretty good job until last night =/
There was NOTHING healthy to eat so I decided to go with the healthiest thing possible…a Taco Salad!
It didn’t taste that great…and probably wasn’t the healthiest thing I’ve eatten all week…but it was either that or starve! See! This is what our school does to us! EAT CRAP OR STARVE!!!! That’s really not nice of them!
Also, I’ve found that everytime I go food shopping and stock my fridge with healthy food, it goes bad so fast! What a waste! =(

I can’t win!

Alright, this post is starting to sound more negative than encouraging.
So I will say this…don’t let crappy college food get ya down! Was that encouraging enough? Probably not =/

Okay, let me try again…I was reading Queen Latifah’s book “Put on Your Crown” BE PROUD MOM!…since you’ve been begging me to read it for like a year now!
Anyway, she talks about how we don’t realize how much we are really capable of and in order to discover our true potential we have to escape our comfort zone!
“Inside every woman there’s a queen, and you owe it to her and to God to do everything in your power to live your most fulfilled and happy life.”
-Queen Latifah
So people, live to the fullest. Accomplish your goals, make healthy choices…because when you do…and you see the outcome…it will be soooo worth it!

Yummy Yummy Gourmet Market =D

September 18, 2010

Alright, so that right there…was my incredibly delicious amazing dinner! I discovered the best supermarket ever today!!! It’s called “Gourmet Market” It’s healthy, they carry tons of homemade salads and its CHEAP! It’s basically HEAVEN! I bought this Orzo Salad…One pound for 5 bucks…That’s Dinner for tonight and Lunch for Tuesday when I go to work! $2.50 a meal!! I can’t wait to go back!

Next, I’d like to discuss the HOCKEY PUCK friggin Turkey Sausage this morning in Locke’s! What a disgrace to Manhattan College. The saddest part is there was a prospective student tour going on while we were eating brunch…WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO WANT TO GO TO MANHATTAN COLLEGE AFTER SEEING THESE BOUNCY PATTIES!?!?!
I had to take a picture for this one…It’s just such an embarrassment to this school….
After you see the picture there won’t be much more left for me to say. You can see for yourself!

I swear, I’m surprised there aren’t more kids dying from heart attacks here! Check out these Bean and Cheese Chimichanga’s from the Vegetarian Station in Locke’s…

1 Chimichanga…Over 1000 calories?!?!!? For real?? COME ON!!!! If I’m gonna eat over 1000 calories I wanna be eating something GOOD! Not this crap! Ew. That’s all I have to say!

So my healthy friends….stick to Chobani, gourmet market, cous cous…and fruit and together we will live long healthy lives.

My only advice to you is DO NOT eat at Manhattan College =D

Last night Bobby and I went to dinner at another one of my favorite healthy places…Cosi (accent on the i) It’s sort of like an italian panera bread! Wait…is panera bread italian? Well you get my point. They have sandwiches with home made flatbreads, pizza, salads, and soups! Now, this place is only healthy if you make the right choice in ordering. You can get carried away and next thing you know you were probably better off going to mcdonalds! Anyway, It turns out that while we were ordering food, Bobby broke the news to me that he wants to start making healthier choices too! I swear…when he said that I always fell over! I was NOT expecting that after he ate Eggs, bacon, and french toast smothered in syrup for breakfast, washed down with sugary “Orange Guava Passionfruit” Minutemaid. And then for lunch he got the most unhealthy sandwich made at subway…A food long flatbread with Philly Cheesesteak, Mozz, Cheddar, peppers, onions, and LOTS of chipotle sauce. So when he told me he wanted to eat healthy for dinner it was the cutest thing ever! So, anyway we went to Cosi and I ordered the Fire Roasted Veggie on Whole Grain. This is my favorite! It is Grilled vegetables with a Feta Cheese Spread and is only 324 calories!! NICE! Bobby got the Chicken TBM. For those of you who aren’t familiar…TBM stands for TOMATO, BASIL, and MOZZARELLA! You have a choice of getting that with either regular dressing or fat free cosi vinaigrette. Bobby chose the fat free vinaigrette! We of course ran in there just as they were closing so they wound up offering Bobby a Cosi Sangria (Non-alcoholic…don’t worry moms) for free…Which is like a million grams of sugar…but it’s okay! He didn’t really know…and I was still very proud of him! So when you get a chance, take a trip to cosi!

I am sitting in the dreadful death class I was talking about the other day and let me just say that I find it very ironic that this guy is 90 years old! My head is going to explode if I hear the words “death”, “hospice”, or “terminal illness” one more time!

On a more positive note, they are having a food expo in Dantes today! (Manhattan College 3rd floor dining hall) I can’t even tell you my level of excitement! They gave away free samples of so many of my favorite healthy foods!!

1. Popchips!
